I have over 20 years experience with printers. My previous printer was very similar to this one. This new printer hardly ever goes on automatically, like I set it to do, when I go to print something from my laptop. So I turn it on manually. Then there is that long delay. I keep getting the flag on my PC saying the printer is off line even though the info displayed on the printer says that it's connected. I then have to momentarily unplug the printer AC cord to restart it. Then it usually prints. I've tried both wireless direct and WiFi connections. Very aggravating. I have a feeling I will have to connect directly to my laptop with a printer cable. After reading so many negative reviews below, I felt I needed to write my own because I love this little red guy I got on Black Friday. It replaced my 5 year old Pixma 3000 series and it simply blows it out of the water on everything:- Printing is much faster and the Wi-Fi data transfer happens much faster- It feels much more responsive- The color quality is wonderful (pictures and documents)- It's quieter than the older printerI felt like I was rolling the dice on this printer's purchase, but I'm thrilled with it. I suspect that either a bunch of people got a lemon, or they simply can't follow basic instructions or don't know basic networking to set up the devices. Some people reported issues with Wi-Fi setup - my router has two networks (one on 2.4 and the other on 5Gig) - I had to change my PC's network from 5G and downgraded it to 2.4G as this printer doesn't work on the AC protocol, but does on N. Once I did that, and went to the link from the user manual, the setup was flawless on my PC. I don't particularly care for the software the Canon offers, nor do I appreciate the attempts at getting me to agree to send anonymous data to them, but other than that, this is a fantastic printer and a much needed upgrade to my old unit. Plus it looks great in red.Another review said it was extremely loud - this is simply not my experience. Lemon? So, wanted to set the record straight because I almost didn't buy this printer because of the negative reviews. My only dislike is that there are a lot of pieces to this printer, and all of them are plastic which give it a slightly flimsy feel. But since it's a sub-$100 printer, I really can't fault it for it. It doesn't impact performance - just don't know how long the parts will last without breaking.Hope this review helps those looking at getting it.This review will mostly interest Mac users but there is some general information included. First, there is no Mac disc included only Windows so you have to use the online setup for Macs. Before beginning, to avoid interference, I disabled my firewall, and I do not run any active security software. After downloading the setup program, I was unable to get the printer to connect wirelessly to my network. It would see the printer, but the connection failed. It would also not connect to my iPhone using Airprint, or even using the Canon Photo Print App. I tried all the wireless options given but none worked. The remaining option was to connect directly with a USB printer cable (which I had to go buy). Once I connected the cable, the setup program gave me the option to manually enter my wireless network password and the setup completed quickly, in a matter of a few minutes. I disconnected the cable after setup and everything worked fine after that, strong wireless connection on all devices. So, Mac users, and perhaps Windows users as well, might want to consider having a USB printer cable handy to help with setup. Overall, I was disappointed in how flimsy the printer is compared to my old MG6220. I'm sure it won't last nearly as long. It's probably fine for occasional light duty home printing which is my purpose. But, if I was planning on frequent use, I'd go with a printer that's more robust. Finally, I found that some of the default settings made the printer more difficult to use. For instance, the auto detect paper mismatch sounds good but it constantly requires you to affirm loaded media which was more hassle than it was worth. So, I had to go through all of the settings making adjustments to get the printer to print without balking or awaiting further input. So, it took most of the day, but I finally got this new Canon working as well as the six year old Canon it replaced. This printer replaced an earlier Canon wireless printer (which in turn had replaced an earlier Canon printer). We've had pretty good luck with Canon printers in our house (we're retired but we do a bit of printing). The Canon two printers ago lasted five or six years. The printer that this one replaced lasted less than two years before it just gave up the ghost. The printer repair guy looked at it and said it would cost way more to repair--if he in fact even could repair it--than it was worth. The good news about this printer is that it seems to work well, has about the same desktop footprint as the old one, and best of all cost just half what we paid at Staples for the old printer. The bad news is that every time Canon changes one of its printer models, it changes the required ink cartridges. We order ink on line and don't like to run out. So we were left holding the bag with almost $100 of ink cartridges that we could not use.1, TTECH SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVEIt's very bad connection ask me question same many time and she sound hearing problem, not even beginto start my question to my problem to start.2, I wish tech support work 24/7 because I have more time to work computer and printing.
