I bought this to print address labels to return items, but it seems incapable of legibly printing a barcode. I wish I could return this because it’s useless to me.Works exactly as described. Made well for being inexpensive too. No defects or issues with it that we could find. Print quality is good for what it is.The first thing to know about this printer is it is not for printing full size mailing labels. It prints small labels, about 1.25 X 2 inches. It has a cute retro look, and it makes cute sounds when printing. It doesn't connect to a PC. It works through an app on a portable device. It's wireless, battery powered, and recharges through a USB cord. It does come with a roll of printing paper labels. Since it's thermal, no ink is required. It's black and white printing only, and not high resolution. But for small labels, it works great, and it looks really cute.A stylish thermal printer-- works great with iPhone. Includes USB C cable for connectivity and charging. We have not yet used this on the computer as it was just easier to print from the iPhone. It is very cool-- you can do different designs and they come out great when printed out.Product arrived right on schedule with no damage. Setup was very simple and so was connecting it to my phone. It prints very clear and cleanly. The printer is very portable for convenient use on the go.Very easy to use and works great, also being wireless makes it betterProduct performs as expected. Really easy to use. Best thing is the thermal printing. No smudging!!!PROS:+ Superb design. The printer's art-deco aesthetics elevate it above the competition and give it a unique look.+ Thermal printing is blazing fast and requires no ink, so there are no ink-drying concerns nor any smearing or bleed-through+ The app, Niimbot, is among the best in class with a user-friendly interface and an impressively complete set of tools that makes creating the perfect label a breeze. You have multiple Undo's, great control over the typography, the ability to select, align and centre multiple objects and can add tables, serial numbers, bar charts, QR codes, lines and frames, icons photos and even Excel data.+ The labels are water- and tear-resistant and can be easily repositioned on non-porous surfaces like glass and plasticCONS:- This is pretty significant: Half of the fonts and graphics can only be used/downloaded by VIP users and to become one you need to pay a subscription fee. The latter is not that cheap either: $14 for 1 month and $130 for 1 year with a couple of promos that lowers some of the options. To me, this is a big letdown since many of the competitors offer all their fonts and graphics for free.- Connecting to the device the first time through the app using Bluetooth took a long time. It initially detected the printer but refused to connect to it and it required multiple trials, closing the app and restarting it and rebooting the printer a few times before it finally worked.-Replacement label rolls are expensive: between $13 to $18 for one roll.- Resolution is not very high - curves will print slightly pixelated. But this is a weakness that most thermal printers suffer from and is not unique to this brand.Overall, this is a fast and incredibly attractive thermal printer partnered with an impressively full-featured app. It would have easily ranked as my number one thermal printer if not for the subscription wall barring you from being able to access the full library of fonts and graphics. There is still enough free content that you may be able to use the printer without ever having to purchase the subscription but similar to some loot chests in gaming it will feel that the developer is unfairly trying to charge you for content that should have been part of the app. Because of that, I would rate this printer 3.5 stars out of 5.5 out of 5 Stars (5)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐[TL;DR]? Cool retro design? Quality manufacturing? Easy to use APP (albeit with Premium subscription available for additional purchase)? Excellent print quality - black and white thermal printing (no toner or ink required)? Comes with 250 labels preinstalled? Buying future labels may be expensive (Niimbot labels are required for quality printing)? Could be an excellent gift to anyone who loves label machines.[QUALITY] (5/5)Modern technology in a retro design. The outer casing on this device is metal and the label printer has significant weight to it. The design reminds me of an intercom box from back in the day. The retro avocado green colour really caught my eye. The printer came in a form fitted box which is retail quality printed with a minimal design. The overall first impression of this printer is quality and I would not have an issue gifting this to someone.[VALUE] (5/5)At the time of review, this thermal printer had a price tag of $83.99. It is not the most expensive model out there, however, it all depends on what you are planning on using this printer for. If it is for business use, the quality in printing and the overall durable exterior may be the features that sell this unit at the price point offered. The printer creates quality printed labels for a reasonable price. It is also durable enough to travel with if you are a mobile business, or remain stationary in your place of business.Maintenance seems pretty light to keep this printer working. Cleaning with a soft cloth regularly and maintaining the battery by regular charging are the two points in the manual that stand out for aftercare. The future purchase of label and paper media needs to be addressed in this review. The instructions indicate that you should "use Niimbot original paper, otherwise poor print quality or damage to the printer may happen." After looking into paper replacements for this model, to replace the 50mm x 30mm labels that came with the printer, you are looking at $17.99 for 230 labels or $0.08/label, on the low end and it increases from there. If you do mad labeling, this may prove to be a deal breaker. You can purchase printers that are a little more flexible if you use off-brand media refills.[EASE OF USE] (5/5)The B21 comes complete with instructions, which are clear and concise. The manual is monolingual (English) and has an easy-to-read font for those with vision issues. The time to set up was minimal and the suggested APP was easy to install. The APP itself is predominantly English, with a smattering of Chinese throughout. This is not a deal breaker, but in some areas I could not understand the directions offered, as they were in Chinese. The printer comes with a USB-C cable for charging and in the event that you misplace the charging cable, you can use almost any cellphone charger on the market today. The printer is Bluetooth and connects to your mobile device using Bluetooth 4.0, with a wireless distance of 10 meters (thereabouts) with an unobstructed path (no walls). This printer is, or seems, as advertised. The app does have a 'Premium' plan which unlocks more fonts and layouts, but the printer is quite usable without the need to subscribe to anything.[MET EXPECTATIONS] (5/5)My expectations were met right out of the gate upon opening the box. The cool retro design is very eye-catching. The description and images used on the sales page are accurate as well as the instructions that are included in the box. My value for money meter is satisfied with this order.[PACKAGING] (5/5)When it come to packaging, this Niimbot B21 thermal printer does check a lot of the boxes we were looking for. It does its main function by providing ample protection in transit. It also would be durable enough to use as a storage box for the unit, protecting it between uses. The box is also recyclable, along with the majority of everything that travelled along with the printer in the box. There is minimal plastic (just the bag the printer was wrapped in) which is not recyclable. The unit itself can be recycled through e-waste. The box-to-product ratio is perfect, leaving no wasted space in the box.[REVIEW REMARKS]All in all, I would order this unit again if the need arose. I was hoping that this unit would take regular thermal paper and could be used as a receipt printer when not printing labels. I may try that in the future. The printer itself is a cool design and is very eye-catching. I like having it on my desk when not in use, as it adds to the office decor. My only true critique is the replacement rolls of paper/labels. If you can only use one type, you are at the mercy of the manufacturer to keep their media at a respectable price. Without the paper, this machine is an $80 paperweight; a cool-looking paperweight, but useless as a printer without their paper. In the event that experiences change or evolve, updates may be made to this review to address such developments. The B21 box arrives sealed in plastic. The B21 thermal label printer’s print quality is great! It prints in bold black, not grayscale. When printing an image, it will allow you to adjust image threshold to get a better black and white picture quality ready for printing. Small text is printed clearly. So far I’ve had no issues with fading prints.Niimbot is a popular brand for thermal label printers. Out of the box, the black B21 printer looks very eye catching with its retro typewriter design. It’s glossy and will pick up smudges and fingerprints but you can easily clean it with a cloth. It charges with the included black USB-C cable. It has some charge so you can use it right away after unboxing. It includes a full label roll inside. The labels are 50x30mm. If you look closely inside the label roll, you can see the RFID chip that is scanned to tell the app which label roll you are using. The Niimbot app, available for iOS and Android, can auto detect the size and design of your labels if you are using an official Niimbot thermal label roll. I’ve also tried third party label rolls which worked but takes some tweaking in the app. What’s great about the B21 is that it’s compatible with thinner label sizes, since the label roll holder inside is adjustable and helps keep the roll centered. The Niimbot app is easy to use and has a lot of features for customization. It’s definitely the best compared to other brand thermal label printers’ apps I’ve used. If you own other Niimbot thermal label printers they will use the same app. To save label templates, you must create an account, which I did. One problem I had with the app was trying to login. It would say something about “network anomaly.” I tried on other devices and it was giving the same error. I didn’t want to create a new account so I waited a while and eventually I was able to sign in. I like that I can use the Niimbot app to print from both my phone and tablet because of the account feature. You can subscribe for more icons, frames, designs, fonts, etc., in the Niimbot app but it is expensive and, in my opinion, unnecessary.Overall, the B21 is a beautiful printer with great print quality and the Niimbot app is a polished app with many tools for label customization and design.
